One day, during her routine self-breast exam, LaTeacha felt a lump and quickly decided to follow-up with her physician and schedule a routine breast exam. Unfortunately, her results indicated invasive DCIS which is one of the most radical forms of breast cancer found especially in African-American women. Understandably, she was both shocked and devastated by this revelation because she was so young.

LaTeacha was frustrated with the lack of available information and resources. For example, not much was available about the occurrence of breast cancer in women under 40 with no family history of it. Equipped with the spirit of self-preservation and the support of her husband, family, and friends, she engaged herself in a suitable healthcare strategy. The strategy was devised by a spectacular team of doctors and other health professionals at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center NC Cancer Hospital, Chapel Hill.”
